Trees
Each time someone places an order on printle.com, we plant a tree. The tree is planted somewhere in the world together with one of the world’s largest and most respected tree planting organizations: American Forests. Please read more about our tree-planting program here. Over-time, we will provide transparent information regarding where these trees have been planted (alongside pictures, etc).
Oil
Choosing an ecologically produced toner or cartridge saves oil, since you don’t need to produce a new plastic cartridge container: our suppliers simply use an old one, fits it with a new aluminium drum and a new micro chip and fills it up with new and high quality toner powder. It takes an estimated 3,5 liters of oil to produce a new laser toner or cartridge and about 0,5 liters of oil to produce a new ink cartridge.
These numbers are considered as standard within the cartridge remanufacturing industry. The calculations are based on the average amount of a certain type of plastics that is used to produce ink and laser cartridges.
1 new laser cartridge: 3,5 liters of oil (0,022 barrels)
1 new ink cartridge: 0,5 liters of oil (0,003 barrels)
Landfill
Each time you buy a remanufactured cartridge from Printle.com, we assume that one cartridge less has been dumped into a landfill somewhere. So, we calculate the average volumes (size) of our cartridges and we use a formula to calculate the total amount of saved landfill (seen on the top banners on each page), as well as your individual “landfill contribution” (you can track that in our Loyalty Program: “PrinTrees: under the section “My contribution”).

1 laser cartridge (size): 6 400 cm3 (0,0064 m3)
And remember:
Firstly: stop throwing away your empty toners and cartridges! Each cartridge you recycle is saved from being dumped into a landfill or ending up in the Synthetic sea.
Secondly: you indirectly re-manufacture cartridges yourself since every re-manufactured cartridge you buy increases the share of recycled cartridges (vs. original / newly produced ones), and makes the entire printing supplies industry more eco-friendly!
Energy
Ecological manufacturing a toner cartridge does not require as much electricity as making a new one, since it is mostly manufactured with special light mechanic machinery - and not with the big hydraulic machines that usually produce new plastic containers. It takes 83.8 Mega Joules of gross energy to produce 1 Kg of plastic. (http://www.wastereduction.org/).
So, we have weighted our empty cartridges and toners and calculated that in average you save the following amounts:
1 - ink cartridge: 0,349 kWh
1 - laser cartridge: 29,097 kWh

Even if Printle.com has spent a lot of time, effort and resources to find out how much energy and oil is needed to produce new laser and ink cartridges (and its subsequent savings by buying our ecologically produced printer products), we reserve the right that some of the above calculation(s) may not be 100% correct. This is due to the fact that there are many different models of cartridges and toners; this makes it very difficult to calculate averages.
All energy saving calculations should be viewed as indicative only. Nevertheless, a lot of effort and investigation has been invested to provide you with the most accurate calculations possible.
The calculations are based on assumptions and averages are not pretending to reflect an absolute truth. Instead, our calculations should be viewed as approximate calculations in order to help our customers evaluate their individual approximate environmental contribution.
